University of Batangas is the proudest as UB High School’s School Papers both for English and Filipino were awarded as Best School Papers of the country. Out of 340 Secondary Schools in the Philippines, The Westernian Pioneer (English School Paper) and Tunog Pamantasan (Filipino School Paper) outshined in the 2018 National Schools Press Conference held last February 19-23,2018 at Dumaguete City.
The Westernian Pioneer was hailed as Champion in Best School Paper English after bagging the 1st Place in Feature Page, 1st Place in Sports Page and 4th Place in Layout and Page Design.
Also, Tunog Pamantasan emerged as Champion in Best School Paper Filipino after raking the 1st Place in Pahinang Isports, 1st Place in Pag-aanyo at Disenyo ng Pahayagan and 2nd Place in Pahinang Lathalain.
On the other hand, Online Publishing English, TV Broadcasting English and TV Broadcasting Filipino, emerged also as Champions and 4th Place in Collaborative and Desktop Publishing.
Additonally, Kyla Guinhawa was elected as Vice President in the National Secondary Editors Guild (NSEG). Staffers were accompanied, trained and coached by Dr. Redentor Rodriguez, Mr. Jaymark Balason, Mr. Micheal De Mesa, Ms. Kristine Joyce Imperial and Ms. Rozsanet Portugal.
In recognition of the achievement of the students, a “Testimonial Luncheon and Thanksgiving Party” was held last March 15, 2018 at Patio Café. The said testimonial was in recognition to the members of the Westernian Pioneer and Tunog Pamantasan who brought recognition to the university. It was also attended by parents of the students, members of the High School Administration and the UB Administration. Gracing the gathering were Dr. Esperanza B. Lusanta, DEPED Educational Program Supervisor (English) and Mrs. Ederlinda Lontoc, DEPED Educational Program Supervisor (Filipino).
University of Batangas is indeed very proud of the great feat of the students to win as National Champions.
